From 2 to 311 Members in Just 4 Months!
It all started as a simple WhatsApp group — just me and my friend — dreaming of a space where girls could learn, share, and grow together. That first night, it was only us. But when I woke up the next morning… 10 new girls had joined.
A few hours later, it became 50. I texted her while we were at work and said, “Look at the group!” I couldn’t stop smiling. In that moment, I realized how many girls truly needed this space.
Today, Gacalo Tech has grown to 311 members in just four months.
We’ve hosted inspiring workshops led by amazing Somali girls speaking about Web Development, UI/UX Design, Multimedia, Cybersecurity, Content Creation, and Job Market Skills.
We even launched our first Web Development course — and it’s going incredibly well!
But my favorite part is seeing girls networking, supporting each other, sharing resources, and learning together like true sisters. Right now, our workshops are virtual, but with the right sponsors, we hope to host physical events soon.
We’re still new, still growing, still building…
But I am so proud of how far we’ve come, and the beautiful space we’ve created together.
